In their July and August solicitations, Marvel announced something called “X-Classified.” Now, in a New York Times article, the company have announced the book is called “Mr. & Mrs. X,” written by Kelly Thompson (“Rogue & Gambit”) and drawn by Oscar Bazaldua (‘Countdown to Extermination’). But be warned, the following contains major spoilers for tomorrow’s issue of “X-Men Gold” #30 (the ‘Wedding of the Century’). Details after the jump:
Marvel revealed that Colossus and Kitty Pryde will not be getting married in tomorrow’s issue. Kitty will get cold feet after a heartfelt conversation with Colossus’s sister, Illyana, and call it off. But with “an officiant and an open bar on hand,” Gambit proposes to Rogue, and that pair get hitched instead.
Thompson, who wrote Rogue and Gambit’s adventures in a miniseries earlier this year, said “I was resistant to it [the idea] initially, but that’s my mistake. It creates all this great conflict and intrigue.” The first two issues of “Mr. & Mrs. X” will show more of Rogue and Gambit’s wedding, due to the issue’s emphasis on Kitty: “You get some stuff with Rogue behind the scenes with some of the X-ladies, putting together something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue,” Thompson said. “I felt the fans deserved to see this because we did not get a big build up.”
The first arc of “Mr. & Mrs. X” will see Rogue and Gambit on their honeymoon in space. “Because they are the X-Men, the sexy, fun times only last for two seconds before they have to save the world,” the writer noted. As for Kitty and Colossus, “X-Men Gold” writer Marc Guggenheim promised there will be several issues of the title dealing with he ramifications of Kitty’s decisions, “including how they define their relationship moving forward.”
“Mr. & Mrs. X” #1 is out July 25. “X-Men Gold” #30 is out tomorrow.
