There are three for-sure things all people love in life: comic covers, cover bands, and MS Paint. Some warned us to never combine this holy trinity. We here at Multiveristy Comics said no, threw caution to the wind, and combined mankind’s three favorite things into our new weekly feature: MS Masterpaint Theater! Each week, we will highlight some of the best comic cover art by recreating those masterpieces in the artist’s ultimate tool, MS Paint.

Welcome to this week of MS Master Paint Theater. Before we enjoy this week’s masterpieces, let’s run over the rules again real quick.

Rules:

  1. Must use MS Paint.
  2. Must use mouse and keyboard.
  3. No tips, tricks, or hints.
  4. 1 hour per piece.
  5. Each piece will be rated on a scale of 1 to 10.

Simple enough! Let’s open the curtain on this week’s covers! Enjoy

If you have not noticed by now I am a big fan of simplistic images with sharp lines and visible silhouettes and outlines. When the series was announced it stood out instantly to me because of Jason’s cover. In comics silhouettes are so important to character design and the team nailed it with the look of our main character. Its ever more presence as Howard is able to get a great reference of her just with this flat white figure. I love the almost cartoony skeletons fading into the white. A minimalist cover is fitting for a book which featured a very visual narrative driven style for most of the issue.  Everything about this cover I love are all this things I know I can’t do in paint, or..can i?

Welcome to horribly drawn earf! ((You see resurgence?  I liked it. It played up an almost b-movie sci-fi style. Was over the top and goofy. Not sure that is what they wanted but I had fun. Anyway)) To answer the question, no I can not do all those things. The silhouettes is there for sure, just a shorter frumpy version. The stars are not bad but who can’t make small dots ((I copied and pasted a small square all over the image cause I mean, really it would take forever)) What was once a lush skeleton graveyard is now a sparse field of squiggles and misfortune. These poor souls died of weird head proportions. I usually avoid including the title but it was cool and pretty present in the cover. I now wish I had not.

5.9 Did you see that one movies out of 10

Thank you for checking out another installment of MS Masterpaint Theater. Look for two more stunning recreations next week. As we have settled into a weekly groove I will look to get other Multiversity Staff  into contributing and maybe even possible creator guests! If you are a reader and would like to contribute, we would love your submissions for your MS Paint masterpieces. Send them here: kwelch@multiversitycomics.com. Until next week, may your airbrush always be crappy.
