Nameless Walking Dead Spin-Off TV Show Announced

Last week, AMC announced that Breaking Bad would be replaced with a spin-off prequel series starring Saul Goodman. It was the network’s first ever instance of wading their feet into the spin-off waters — but it was not the last.

Announced today, The Walking Dead will get a spin-off series that follows certain characters as they survive in a different location from the main characters and action. Feature all new characters in the same world, AMC is clearly banking on the success of The Walking Dead to translate into a brand new setting, albeit without any of the cast that makes The Walking Dead the network’s single most popular show. Still, people love zombies and people love the show, so there’s clearly assumed room for growth here.

Of course, this announcement happens to occur around the 10th anniversary of “The Walking Dead” comic from which the series hails from, with a following statement from Robert Kirkman to go with the announcement:

“After 10 years of writing the comic book series and being so close to the debut of our fourth, and in my opinion, best season of the TV series, I couldn’t be more thrilled about getting the chance to create a new corner of The Walking Dead universe,” Kirkman said. “The opportunity to make a show that isn’t tethered by the events of the comic book, and is truly a blank page, has set my creativity racing.”

So, if I’m not mistaken, I think this makes “The Walking Dead” the single most successful comic of our generation, right? I mean, it doesn’t even matter if you like either the comic or the book — it has officially become a juggernaut.

Season 4 of The Walking Dead begins October 13th.

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
