Those that don’t live in Portland, Oregon aren’t just robbed of all of the food carts, vinyl shops and hipster watching a person could ever want by not living there, now they’re missing out on an epic Hayao Miyazaki retrospective. Titled “Castles in the Sky: Miyazaki, Takahata, and the Masters of Studio Ghibli,” this event highlights 13 of Miyazaki’s films in brand new 35mm prints. For those that don’t know, Miyazaki is one of the greatest minds of any visual medium ever. His films and comics influenced some of the great creative minds of today (namely, Pixar’s John Lasseter), and they also influenced one of our favorite up-and-coming cartoonists in Natalie Nourigat.

Nourigat proves that huge influence in a piece she created for the Portland Mercury, as she breaks down each of the films that will be playing at this retrospective in amusing and gorgeous fashion. Fans of Miyazaki or Nourigat should not miss this breakdown on the awesome of Miyazaki.
