A New Sidekick, Job and Status Quo for “Daredevil” Is Coming

You know, when it was announced, I didn’t quite appreciate the brilliance of having Charles Soule write “Daredevil”. His background as an attorney was clearly woven into his time writing “She-Hulk” and, of course, that’s going to factor into his writing of Hell’s Kitchen’s Guardian Devil. Over at the A.V. Club, Soule and artist Ron Garney sat down and talked a little about their upcoming run and what we can expect.

First up, that guy on the promo image? Not Gambit. In fact, Soule and Garney revealed that this is a new character, whose name has still not been revealed, who will be working with and learning from Daredevil in this new series. This new ally of Daredevil’s is an undocumented immigrant from China living in Manhattan’s Chinatown and given Soule’s history working with immigration law, this is a story angle I am very interested in seeing play out.

Not only that, but Soule also revealed that Matt Murdock will have an all-new, all-different status quo as well as Daredevil as he becomes an Assistant District Attorney. Now, this is the part of the interview where Soule breaks down the new status quo in a way I am not equipped to translate, so I’m going to recommend you just read what he has to say about it.

So, are you excited about the new direction Charles Soule and Ron Garney are taking “Daredevil”? I’ll admit I’m a little hesitant in how quickly the title is returning to it’s grittier feel, but I have trust in this creative team.

Alice W. Castle

Sworn to protect a world that hates and fears her, Alice W. Castle is a trans femme writing about comics. All things considered, it’s going surprisingly well. Ask her about the unproduced Superman films of 1990 - 2006. She can be found on various corners of the internet, but most frequently on Twitter: @alicewcastle
