If you’re a fan of Multiversity, chances are you’re aware of who Dylan Todd is. Whether it’s from his wonderful graphic design work (such as on the upcoming Dark Horse series “POP”) or his place in the Best Hair Game in Comics finalists, Todd is a talented comic-loving guy working hard to add his contributions to the medium we all love.
Which, in turn, brings us to today and the release of “2299” Volume 1, a sci-fi anthology that Todd edited and recently completed. Described as “2000 AD” meets Weird Science, the comic was released digitally via Gumroad and features the wonderfully talented works of creators like Matt Digges, Kyle Starks, Caleb Goellner, Kevin Church and more, with a kick-ass Robert Wilson IV cover to boot. And you know what? 80 pages of sci-fi comics for $2 in the form of a CBZ, CBR or PDF is not too shabby.
I actually downloaded this earlier today, hence my posting about it here and now, and I’ve gotta say that it’s really impressive. While I’ve not read the whole thing (I sort of hopped between stories), the few that I have read are great. Kyle Starks, for example, continues to be one of the best indie creators around, and as a fan of “Awesome Hospital” it was great to see new work from Matt Digges and “Awesome Hospital’s” letterer Josh Krach.
It’s well worth the digital purchase, is what I’m saying. Never a bad time for a digital anthology, and never bad time for more smart sci-fi comics either.
