Announced at CBR, the crew of the Serenity are in fact making their way back to comics. And, in a change of pace to the usual hub bub of announcements, though, it seems that only the artist is announced here. Georges Jeanty, of “Buffy” Seasons 8 and 9 will be transitioning over to “Serenity” as the series artist.

The series will follow Mal and the crew as they deal with the fallout of Serenity (the film) and on the run from the Alliance after exposing them as creators of the Reavers. Zoe will appear pregnant as she did in the one-shot written by Patton Oswalt eulogizing Wash, and River will take over his role as Mal’s co-pilot. Mal will aim to misbehave as ever.

What’s exciting in particular is that Jeanty lists Mobius, Geof Darrow, Walt Simonson’s “Alien” as his inspiration for the book, promising a dark and frightful look at space that’s much different than what fans have seen from his work on “Buffy.”

It’s not stated how long the series will run, whether it is an ongoing or a mini, but any new Firefly comic is a good Firefly comic in my opinion.

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
