At CBR, author George Mann is bringing his Newbury & Hobbes novels to Titan Comics this September. The series, “Newbury & Hobbes: The Undying,” will be written by Mann and illustrated by Dan Boultwood (“Doctor Who,” “The Baker Street Irregulars”).

The comic’s first issue will mark the tenth anniversary of the steampunk series, which began in 2008 with The Affinity Bridge. The novels and short stories revolve around the titular Sir Maurice Newbury and Miss Victoria Hobbes, special agents solving crimes in Victorian England. The comic will see Newbury and Hobbes contending with the return of Dr. Aubrey Knox, the villain of the second book, The Osiris Ritual, from 2009.

Boultwood said, “Monsters, foggy old London town, steam-powered vehicles, masked subterfuge, fine suits and ladies bustles, all the things I love to draw are in ‘Newbury & Hobbes.’ This book has been a lot of fun to work on. As a fan of the novels I’ve loved being able to be a part of bringing one of their stories to visual life, and it’s a great story!”

Mann stated, “I’m delighted to be bringing ‘Newbury & Hobbes’ to comics, and even more excited to be working with the excellent Dan Boultwood and the team at Titan Comics, who have worked wonders in bringing their world and its people to life.” Mann will also write a serialized prose back-up for each issue.

“The Undying” #1 will be released in September. Head on over to CBR for a three-page preview of the issue.
