Nick Spencer And Scott Eaton Take Over Secret Avengers

As Fear Itself comes in April, so does a big change to Secret Avengers – as in the main titles author and artist are both leaving to be replaced by the hot new team of Nick Spencer and Scott Eaton! Can I get a “Holy crap!” from the peanut gallery, here?

Starting with Avengers #12.1 which was solicited for April already, it looks like this tiny blip on the SA radar is now expanding. The Secret Avengers are outed in the public, and Nick Spencer is here to do damage control. The tease for the 13th issue promises not only a Fear Itself tie-in, but also that Rogers will be putting together a brand new team, so it’s safe to say that with #12.1 and the outing of the SA in public, several of the members will be leaving (if the cover to issue #13, shown here to the left and arted by the always awesome Adi Granov, is any indication). And to have Scott Eaton on as the ongoing artist? Oh man. Talk about exciting news.

The loveliest bit about this information, though, is that now it seems that Secret Avengers are truly here for the long term, and not simply just a segue title like Dark Avengers ended up being. Long live the Heroic Age, my friends!

For the full press release as well as solicit information, check behind the cut. And in the meantime, I will be off in the corner doing my “this is the best news that I’ll hear all day” jig.

As Fear Itself ravages the Marvel Universe, writer Nick Spencer (IRON MAN 2.0) and artist Scot Eaton (FEAR ITSELF: BOOK OF THE SKULL) answer the call taking Steve Rogers and the Secret Avengers into the fray beginning in SECRET AVENGERS #13! Steve Rogers, America’s super-soldier, is well accustomed to making tough calls, but none may be tougher than the ones he’ll have to make to successfully sabotage the abominable threat of Fear Itself. As the Marvel Universe begins fall like dominoes before one of his bitterest enemies, Rogers will have to recruit a new group of heroes into the fight for freedom of mind, body and soul…and confront the ideals he upheld as the Sentinel of Liberty head-on!

“I couldn’t be happier to have a rising talent like Nick taking the reins of SECRET AVENGERS as we head into Fear Itself” exclaimed SVP of Publishing, Tom Brevoort. “As evidenced in his THUNDER Agents work, Nick’s got a thoroughly modern approach to the espionage tale, and I expect him to do great things with Steve’s covert squad.”

Get your first taste of what Spencer and Eaton have in store for America’s deep cover heroes this April as the duo helms the special introductory Point One edition of SECRET AVENGERS #12.1 — the perfect starting point for new readers eager to check out the series that has everyone talking! From there, witness the opening shot in the team’s guerilla war against Fear Itself for their highest stakes mission yet this May, only in SECRET AVENGERS #13!
