Via Syfy Wire, “Kick-Ass” and “Wanted” scribe Mark Millar has announced a new comic project with Image, the six-issue miniseries “Night Club.” The comic will follow three teenagers who have been bitten by vampires, but instead of becoming murderous ghouls, they choose to use their newfound undead powers for good. “It’s such an obvious idea I’m amazed nobody has ever done it,” Millar says of the concept, “as superheroes and vampires have everything in common.”

“Night Club” began its unlife as a proposal for Netflix, part of the deal Millar made with the streamer when it acquired the writer’s Millarworld company in 2017. But as development proceeded on the series, Millar couldn’t help but imagine it in print, especially as “the whole story is done and we have a pile of designs sitting here.” Some was contributed by Millar’s own daughter, Emily, whom he calls an “absolute genius,” suggesting a future compilation may include her designs.

Many details of the series have yet to be announced, including the rest of the creative team. While issue #1 features covers from Greg Capullo, Ben Templesmith and Ben Oliver, Millar has yet to confirm the book’s interior artist. “I have an artist in mind and I’m going to talk to him about it this week,” he said. “I know he’s available to start working almost immediately and I think he’ll be a great fit.”

“Night School” is set for release from Image sometime in 2022.
