Over the past twenty-eight years, Hellboy’s paranormal investigations have taken him to so many places all over the world. And yet, even though one of his primary antagonists is the goddess Hecate, we’ve never seen him go to Greece. That all changes this May with the one-shot story “Hellboy and the B.P.R.D.: Night of the Cyclops.” Hellboy creator Mike Mignola is joining forces with French cartoonist Olivier Vatine who is not only illustrating the story, but co-writing too.
If you’re familiar with Vatine’s work, then you know already we’re in for something special. In 2018, Dark Horse Comics released an English edition of his “Niourk” trilogy in a single volume. It’s a fantastic book and earned Vatine an Eisner nomination. He’s also worked on “Fred and Bob,” “Stan Pulsar,” and “Aquablue” with Thierry Cailleteau, and he previously worked with Dark Horse Comics on their adaptation of Timothy Zahn’s “Star Wars: Heir to the Empire.”
I for one cannot wait to see what he and Mignola do together. Not to mention it’ll just be fun to explore Greek mythology through the lens of the Hellboy Universe. . .
