According to a press release sent out by Marvel, two new X-Men titles, “Legion” and “Rogue & Gambit,” will be launching in January 2018. No further information, not even the creative teams, were given, though they said to expect more information at the New York Comic Con. The “Rogue & Gambit” cover appears as though it may have been drawn by Kris Anka (“Captain Marvel”).
Gambit has had several solo series, the last of which, written by James Asmus and drawn by Clay Mann, ran for seventeen issues from August 2012 to September 2013. The character also headlined the 2016 limited series “Deadpool v Gambit,” written by Ben Acker & Ben Blacker and penciled by Danilo Beyruth. A film starring Channing Tatum as Gambit has been in development for several years: in August, the actor mentioned the script was being rewritten to take into account the success of Deadpool and Logan.
Rogue’s last official solo comic was in 2005, but she was a prominent part of Mike Carey’s “X-Men: Legacy” run from 2009 to 2012, to the point many fans felt the comic was a Rogue comic in all but name. (When pressed about this at a convention, Carey replied to yours truly that it had not been intentional.) The character has also been a prominent part of “Uncanny Avengers” since the end of Carey’s series.
Legion, meanwhile, was the protagonist of the second “X-Men: Legacy” series published from 2012 to 2014, which was written by Simon Spurrier and primarily drawn by Tan Eng Huat. The comic’s logo clearly evoke that of the critical acclaimed Legion TV series. As it contrasts with the logos of the other ongoing X-Men titles coming out of ‘ResurrXion,’ it may be a limited series.
“Legion” and “Rogue & Gambit” will begin January 2018: stay tuned to Multiversity for the creative team announcements and more from New York Comic Con.
