It’s only the first of NYCC, and it’s not even open to the public yet, and DC are already dropping big ol’ news bombs. Courtesy of USa Today, the company revealed that as part of their celebration of the Dark Knight’s 75th anniversary next year they will be debuting a weekly Batman series. Titled “Batman: Eternal”, the title will be headed by Scott Snyder who will be backed up by a whole team of writers including James Tynion IV, John Layman, Ray Fawkes and Tim Seeley. Current “Detective Comics” artist Jason Fabok is currently the lead artist on the project, but the weekly nature of the book seems like a prime opportunity for rotating and guest artists.

The idea of the book seems to be a way for the current crew of Bat-writers to band together to explore the stories of Gotham, hopefully providing an even stronger link between the monthly books. Scott Snyder told USA Today that “it’s a place for me to be able to work with good friends in terms of shaping Gotham in a bigger, grander and more game-changing way than ever before.” It also seems like a way, much like Snyder’s current ‘Zero Year’ storyline, to explore the history of Gotham in a way that hasn’t been done before. Snyder will be co-writing the first arc of “Batman: Eternal” with James Tynion IV.

Also in big Batman news, it was revealed that January’s “Detective Comics” #27 will be a massive 104-page anniversary book. The book will celebrate the original “Detective Comics” #27 issue that debuted the Caped Crusader himself. Snyder will be a part of a crazy number of creators working on the book, including Sean Murphy which finally solves the mystery of their future Batman story. Along with Snyder, names like Paul Dini, Brad Meltzer, Gregg Hurwitz, Peter Tomasi, Neal Adams, Dustin Nguyen and Francesco Francavilla will be involved in the book. And it seems that someone finally discovered where Frank Miller has been hiding in these recent years as he will be contributing a two-page spread. Seems like a hell of a book, no?

And it seems like one fine way to celebrate the Dark Knight, with an anniversary issue in January and a weekly series in Spring of next year. Not to mention the likelihood of crazy stories in the current Bat-books. Be sure to head over to USA Today for more info on all the Bat-related goings on in 2014.

Ask her about the unproduced Superman films of 1990 - 2006. She can be found on various corners of the internet, but most frequently on Twitter: @alicewcastle
