NYCC 2013: The Unwritten Concludes With the Apocalypse

It was announced some time ago that after the current arc of “the Unwritten,” the book would take a break before returning with volume 2. Now we know a bit more, as it was announced at NYCC that the second volume would be the series finale, and that it would be titled “The Unwritten: Apocalypse.”

Revealed over at CBR, “The Unwritten: Apocalypse” will be a three-arc 12-issue series that will tie off all the threads of the book in a definitive fashion, with each issue running at 22 pages. After the end of the Fabletown arc, something will have happened for Tom and Tommy in order to put the idea of reality into question (which, I guess is a nod to the discussion that is had in a recent issue about characters being fiction in parallel realities) and this will lead to some kind of massive apocalyptic ending.

While I am sad to hear that the book is ending, I am reminded of the end of “The Invisibles,” which was a similar 12-issue deal about the apocalypse that brought the series to its rightful conclusion. I would imagine that Carey and Gross can similarly stick the landing for this series.

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
