NYCC: Ann Nocenti is Taking Over "Green Arrow" with Issue Seven. Really.

Ann Nocenti has returned! DC announced yesterday that the once rising superstar writer Nocenti will be taking over “Green Arrow” with issue seven, even though she has been essentially out of the industry for a decade and a half (apparently acting primarily as a journalist during that time). It makes a lot of sense though: Nocenti’s most renowned effort was her “Daredevil” work that followed Frank Miller’s run in the 80’s, and it showed that she could layer a street level character with gravitas and a sense of identity. Having read the first issue of the new series, I can tell you those are definitely things the character lacks.

Of course, this is another creator that had a heyday in yesteryear, which is kind of a thing that they’ve been doing with the DCnU. Still, Nocenti is an interesting move that could pay off big in terms of redeeming this book. We’ll find out in a few months.
