This January, IDW sends the Ghostbusters overseas. Following the current series, “Ghostbusters: Get Real,” and the 2015 Annual, series regulars Erik Burnham and Dan Schoening will have classic Ray Stantz, Peter Venkman, Winston Zeddmore, and Egon Spengler confronting ghosts of all kinds of different cultures and creeds

“We have so many ideas for visits to so many countries,” Burnham says in the announcement with CBR. “The ghosts they face will be more . . . I guess ‘standard’ . . . insofar as they aren’t godlike beings bent on destruction.”

Burnham seems excited about exploring the different types of supernatural occurrences from all over the world. “I always strive for accuracy and put a lot of time into researching folklore/history,” he continues. “In Italy, near Venice, the Island of Poveglia is supposed to be one of the most haunted in the world. And Paris has tons of ghost lore to choose from.”

He also promised that the Ghostbusters won’t be ignoring their NYC headquarters, leaving Janine in charge of hiring people in their place (could this be a way to welcome in the Melissa McCarthy crew from the upcoming Paul Feig movie?) and sort of leaving a franchise of Ghostbusters behind. It sounds like a sort of “Ghostbuster, Inc.,” though apparently Dan Aykroyd’s original concept involved the team setting up a business of ghost exterminators. “We’ve always intended to use as much of Aykroyd’s concepts as we could the more we used, the more we expanded on the core.”

“Ghosts are everywhere, not just in New York City,” Burnham says. “Other worldly cultures are so rich in haunted tales and apparitions, it would be a shame not to visit them.”

“Ghostbusters International” #1 written by Erik Burnham with art by Dan Schoening will arrive in January 2016 from IDW. Read the rest of the announcement and interview with Erik Burnham here.
