While the Gold Team of Multiversity is over at NYCC setting new records in “number of restraining orders filed by comics creators in a single weekend,” those of us on the Blue Team have been content to hear word from afar, mostly in the form of press releases. And among the (by my last count) 200,000 announcements Dark Horse has made this weekend, this one is by far the most important.
Shaolin Cowboy started off as an ongoing series for the Wachowskis’ Burlyman Entertainment company. Then it got less ongoing, and now here we are. It told, at its own leisurely pace, the story of Shaolin Cowboy, who pretty much just wandered around with his talking donkey, prompting people, crabs, zombies, and so on to want to kill him just for being there.
Geof Darrow wrote and drew this amazing thing, and now, he’s doing it again. What exactly he’ll be doing isn’t clear — the Burlyman series ended mid-story, so whether or not that will be attended to is anyone’s guess. What we do know: Dark Horse Comics, Shaolin Cowboy, three issues, 2012.
So really, don’t even pretend you’re excited for anything else in 2012, because compared to this, whatever you’re looking forward to sucks.
