In official confirmation of what was the worst kept completely non-secret, Dwayne Johnson has been officially cast as Black Adam in an upcoming “Shazam” film, per both his Twitter and Variety. The only thing left to wonder previously was whether he’d be Shazam (aka Captain Marvel) or Black Adam (his choice), and this apparently reflects the decision he made. Who doesn’t want to play #TheAntiHero after all?

According to Variety, Darren Lemke (of “Jack the Giant Slayer” and “Shrek Forever After” fame) will be scripting this endeavor with Hiram Garcia producing at New Line, and based off what we know, we can promise you only one thing: Lemke won’t write any jokes into the script. Either way, we’re still a ways out, as the script is just now getting worked on, but now Johnson can stop his Vin Diesel impersonation and stop teasing a role endlessly.

We’ve dissected it before, but it’s a good fit for the role, both physically and demeanor wise (although he might have been better as the literal man child Shazam), and I really dig Black Adam as a character even though his characterization in comics has been a bit all over the place. Here’s hoping they go more for a 52 era feel. The man of honor (when he isn’t beheading criminals and starting World War III). That’s a good Black Adam.
