The Hollywood Reporter has revealed IDW Publishing will launch a “Goosebumps” comic in October. Characters from R.L. Stine’s children’s horror novellas will be featured in an anthology title with a rotating creative team.
In a statement provided by IDW, Stine said, “My first reading thrill when I was a kid were the EC horror comics ‘Tales From the Crypt’ and ‘The Vault of Horror.’ They introduced me to the excitement of reading. Now all these years later, I have another thrill — seeing my stories and characters come to life in a comic book series of their own.”

Stine himself is no stranger to comics, having written this year’s “Man-Thing” limited series for Marvel.

The first arc, ‘Monsters at Midnight,’ is written by Jeremy Lambert (“Attack on Titan Anthology”) and drawn by Chris Fenoglio (“X-Files: Origins”). The cover for the first issue and concept art reveal franchise mascot Slappy the Dummy as the first villain. Lambert wrote the SyFy webseries, Haven: Origins, and has also been involved in projects like La La Land, The Wolverine, and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. “Goosebumps” will be his first major comics project.

The comic will mark the 25th anniversary of Goosebumps, which consisted of 62 books published 1992 to 1997. It was adapted into a television series broadcast from 1995 to 1998 and a 2015 film starring Jack Black. This will actually be the second “Goosebumps” comic book series: the book’s publisher Scholastic released four “Goosebumps Graphix” titles, which were published intermittently from 2006 to 2015. IDW will reveal more information on “Goosebumps” at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con.
