Oni Press announced three new titles at the Diamond Retailers Summit this morning. The publisher has two of its longest running series – “The Life After” and “Letter 44” – either wrapping up, or just ended, so this influx of new product couldn’t have come at a better time.

Dead of Winter #1 retail cover illustrated by Brian Hurtt with Bill Crabtree

“Dead of Winter” is a horror-comedy miniseries, based on the popular tabletop game, about a dog trying to survive a wintery apocalypse and protect his friends, all while being a good boy! The series is scripted by Eisner Award-nominated writer Kyle Starks best known for his fan favorite work on “Rick and Morty” and the newly released hobo epic “Rock Candy Mountain” from Image Comics. Eisner Award-nominated artist Gabo of “Elephantman” and “The Life After” will provide the interiors. The book hits shelves on on August 2.

Made Men #1 retail cover illustrated by Arjuna Susini with Gonzalo Duarte

“Made Men” is a dark action-comedy miniseries about a Detroit Special Ops Officer who resurrects her squad after a mission gone wrong. How you ask? Officer Jutte Shelley has some old family ties to the infamous Dr. Frankenstein. The series will be helmed by writer Paul Tobin (“Bandette,” ”I Was the Cat”) and illustrated by Arjuna Susini (“Mistry P.I.,” “Shikari Force: Hunters”) with colors by Gonzalo Duarte (“Big Trouble in Little China” “Brik”). Look for “Made Men” in comic shops this September.

Cover by Megan Rose Gedris

“Spectacle” is a three-volume Young- Adult graphic novel series about a supernatural murder mystery by Megan Rose Gedris (“YU+ME:dream,” “I Was Kidnapped By Lesbian Pirates From Outer Space”). The story revolves around logical engineer Anna, a psychic in the Samson Brothers Circus, who does not believe in anything remotely supernatural. This all changes when her twin sister is murdered and comes back as a grumpy ghost who is now sharing her body. “Spectacle” Vol. 1 is slated for publication in Winter 2018.

Oni Press continuously puts out quality offerings and I don’t expect them to miss a beat here. Personally, I am not a fan of contemporary stories with classic literature tie-in’s; but add bringing a bunch of cops back to life using some non-human parts in the process and I’m all in on ”Made Men.”

ONI PRESS ANNOUNCES THREE NEW SERIES AT DIAMOND RETAILER SUMMIT 2017

APRIL 20, 2017, PORTLAND, OR—Oni Press, Portland’s premier independent comic book publisher, is thrilled to announce three new series at the Diamond Retailer Summit 2017 in Chicago, IL: DEAD OF WINTER, MADE MEN, and SPECTACLE.

DEAD OF WINTER is a new horror-comedy mini-series based on the smash hit tabletop board games by Plaid Hat Games. Featuring the talents of Eisner Award-nominated writer Kyle Starks (Rick and Morty, Rock Candy Mountain) and Eisner Award-nominated artist Gabo (The Life After, Elephantmen), and cover art illustrated by Brian Hurtt and Bill Crabtree (The Sixth Gun, The Damned), Dead of Winter arrives in comic shops this August. Fans and retailers can also look forward to a pretty freaking funny variant cover by Erica Henderson (The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl, Jughead), as well.

In the pantheon of heroes, none are more lovable and loyal than everyone’s beloved good ol’ dog, Sparky. Surviving in the wintery apocalypse of the undead, this former TV star turned zombie killing machine just wants to make friends and be a good boy. As his fellow survivors scavenge for supplies in the frigid wasteland, will Sparky be able to protect his companions from threats both undead and not yet undead?

A hilarious mix of The Walking Dead and Airbud (no, really), the Dead of Winter comic series draws from the incredibly fun and diverse sandbox of characters from the hit board games, starring fan-favorite canine, Sparky the Stunt Dog.

Oni Press Senior Editor Charlie Chu gushes, “Plaid Hat’s Dead of Winter is one of my all-time favorite board games, with its sandbox of fun and diverse characters. Just like in the game, fall in love with Sparky all over again as he becomes a zombie murdering machine while keeping precious morale high.”
