According to Variety, one of the stars of the upcoming “Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens” is set to go in a different genre film direction, as Oscar Isaac has been cast as none other than En Sabah Nur, aka Apocalypse, in “X-Men: Apocalypse”. Isaac’s career path has been a fascinating one, and he’s the first actor I can think of that leveraged a bravura and award winning performance as a folk singer in a Coen Brothers movie (“Inside Llewyn Davis”) to star as a Jedi and an immortal mutant villain, but by all estimation he’s the type of actor who can add gravitas and power to any role.
The role as Apocalypse will be a different one entirely, though. I have to imagine the character will be entirely CGI – I’m personally hoping for them just using make up to create the “Why So Serious?” face Apocalypse has – as becoming 7 foot tall and weighing 400+ pounds is probably outside of even Isaac’s considerable range, but even as just a voice, I’m sure Isaac would add a ton to the role.
Worth noting, it’s supremely odd to be living in a world where analyzing how a movie would bring this guy to life is an actual thing to do, but hey, that’s 2014 for you. “X-Men: Apocalypse” is set to arrive May 18, 2016. I hope you have enough comic movies and TV shows to survive until then.
