Dark Horse Comics have teamed up with Blizzard Entertainment for a new five-issue series based on the video game Overwatch, “Overwatch: Tracer – London Calling,” and released the first issue online for free. Written by Mariko Tamaki with art by Babs Tarr and colorist Rachael Cohen, the comic follows plucky British teleporter and ex-Overwatch agent Tracer a year before the events of the game, when the titular anti-terrorist organization had been disbanded.

Working as a part-time hero in her hometown of London, Tracer encounters a “punk-rock” omnic (robot) named Iggy, who shows her “the dire living conditions that have been forced upon London’s omnics,” leading her to become “determined to help in any way possible — even if it puts her back in the crosshairs.”

Launched in 2016, Overwatch is a team-based first-person shooter that features over 30 playable heroes. Tracer, voiced by Cara Theobold, became the game’s breakout character, going on to appear in Blizzard’s Heroes of the Storm and Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One — the character also garnered further attention when she was revealed to be a lesbian in the game’s initial tie-in comic (produced in-house by Blizzard).

According to CBR’s exclusive, the comic will continue to release monthly online first, and the first issue will be released in print on December 2, 2020. Issue #1 is now available to read in over 13 different languages at Dark Horse Digital, and the official Overwatch website.
