In an exclusive from the good folks at Comic Book Resources, it has been announced that following their “Phantom Lady” and “The Ray” minis, the next four-issue mini from Jimmy Palmiotti and Justin Gray will be “The Human Bomb.”. Illustrated by the legendary Jerry Ordway and debuting in December, this will be the third straight mini for the former “Uncle Sam and the Freedom Fighters” writers to tackle a re-imagination of one of their Freedom Fighters characters.

The new Human Bomb is war veteran Michael Taylor, an ex-Marine dealing with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. While there aren’t any immediate plans to bring back the Freedom Fighters, it appears that DC is more than just testing the waters for a series, but seems to be building up a base of fans an upcoming ongoing book. Somewhere, fans of Wally West, Donna Troy, Stephanie Brown and Cassandra Cain are burning effigies of Dan DiDio over their characters not getting one mini and Freedom Fighters getting three.

The December time frame is a little odd, as “Phantom Lady” #4 was due to be released in November, but was not solicited, and emails to DC asking about if it would be rescheduled went unanswered. Could both “Phantom Lady” #4 and “The Human Bomb” #1 both come out in December? I suppose we’ll find out on Monday when DC’s solicitations for that month are released.
