Via The Beat, Dark Horse Comics have announced “‘Patra,” a four-issue horror series written by James Robinson, with art by Scott Kolins, and lettering by Jim Campbell. A homage to slasher flicks, the comic follows the titular young girl, who finds herself being pursued by a serial killer in a small midwestern town, with no memory of her past. “Whenever she’s in danger, a big knife and a terrifying mask appear. What’s going on? And can she make it out alive?”

The book marks Robinson’s first comics series since working as a writer and producer on the Stargirl TV series, which ran from 2020 to 2022, and will be the first of several projects from him at Dark Horse. He says, “We’re tipping our hats to the many slasher characters from the 1980s while also focusing on one young girl who must face this horror, growing in strength and confidence all the while, as she also solves the mystery of her own existence. I really wanted to do a horror book with some real heart and emotion to it, and I think with Scott, we’ve done just that.”

Kolins, who previously worked with Robinson on DC’s “Men of War,” commented “‘Patra” was conceived over a decade ago. “I’ve been waiting over a dozen years to draw ”Patra’ in a great comic book,” he said, “and to work with James on this slasher mystery! Best horror story I’ve worked on since ‘Solomon Grundy’,” referring to the 2009 series he wrote and drew at DC. He adds, “Our ideas meshed so well on this project — I hope it never ends!!”

“‘Patra” #1 will be released on August 21, with a main cover by Kolins, and a variant by Francesco Francavilla. The last three issues will feature variant covers by Gabriel Hernandez Walta, Matt Wagner, and Kelley Jones.
