Patrick Fugit Set to Star in Cinemax Adaptation of Kirkman and Azaceta’s “Outcast”

We’re rather late to this party, but what a party it is! Patrick Fugit (most recently of “Gone Girl”, most notably William Miller – the Enemy – from “Almost Famous”) has been cast in the upcoming Cinemax adaptation of Robert Kirkman and Paul Azaceta’s “Outcast”. The comic, which follows a tortured young man named Kyle Barnes as he deals with possessions in his area and the trauma of his experiences with them in the past, has been universally well done since its debut, and it has also been selling beaucoup copies at least partially because of the enormous cachet the Kirkman brand has at this point.

While a huge part of what makes the book great is Azaceta’s art, casting someone like Fugit, who was better at acting as a teenager than most adults aspire to be, gives the show significant weight and hope to be something great. And honestly, the concept seems like something that will work very well on the small screen, especially with “You’re Next” and “The Guest” director Adam Wingard bringing some serious chops to the pilot’s production as well.

“Outcast” as a comic has been very good, and with things like this being announced, it gives me a lot of hope in the TV series as well. We’ll see in a while, but hey, shout out to the cast of “Saved!” With both Jena Malone and Fugit reeling in big comic roles, it’s only a matter of time until Macaulay Culkin finally gets his due in comic movie or TV show form.
