Hot off the news that Warner Bros is looking towards Joaquin Phoenix for its Lex Luthor, Variety is reporting that Paul Rudd is currently in early negotiations to play Ant-Man in the forthcoming film directed by Edgar Wright, slated for a July 31st, 2015 release.

Paul Rudd is certainly an inspired choice for the role, but one that matches the comedic chops Edgar Wright will presumably bring to the character. Rudd doesn’t have many action roles, aside from Monsters Vs. Aliens and Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers, so it’ll be interesting to see another actor not known for action movies show a different side of themselves in a Marvel film, like Robert Downey Jr. in Iron Man or Chris Pratt in the forthcoming Guardians of the Galaxy.
It’s a little unclear as to which Ant-Man Rudd will be playing. Hank Pym seems the most likely choice, but Scott Lang is still a distinct possibility. Also, the idea of an Eric O’Grady film was an incredibly satisfying fever dream I had a couple weeks ago.
On the other hand, Ant-Man could also turn out to be a two hour long meta-prank about Bobby Newport bribing Hollywood into letting him star in an Ant-Man movie. Would we at Multiversity still pay to see that?
Yes. Yes we would.
