Calvin and Hobbes have seen a huge boom in cultural relevance again lately. We had recently just gotten the brilliant Joker and Lex from Azzarello and Bermejo, and even a look at what Han Solo and Chewbacca might look like in similar duds, but now it looks like writer Mark Pellegrini and artist Timothy Lim have their own hilarious send-up of a look into Spider-Man’s recent history.
The tone and look of the comic is just perfect. The last line is Calvin in the form of Peter Parker, and the comic reminds us both of how silly Spider-Man has been and how great Calvin and Hobbes was. I love that there has been a resurgence in references to the great strip lately, and who better to point a humorous finger in Spidey’s direction?
Which reminds me – and not to make too much of a shameless plug of it – but the Complete Calvin and Hobbes always makes a great gift.
