The adult Jean Grey is returning to Marvel Comics this December in a five-part miniseries, simply called “Phoenix Resurrection.” Written by Matthew Rosenberg (“Secret Warriors,” “Punisher” #218), the first issue will be drawn by Leinil Francis Yu (“Secret Invasion”), who will be followed by different artists on each of the subsequent four. Marvel’s press release announcing the series also revealed Rosenberg has signed an exclusive contract with Marvel.

Mark Paniccia, senior editor of the X-Men line, stated, “Matt came to us with a really interesting and unique approach to bringing Jean back. It’s not what we expected, and plays to Matt’s biggest strengths as a storyteller.” He continued, “Jean will have a startling new role after this, and you’re left wondering, how will the rest of the X-Men respond? What will happen to young Jean Grey?” The young Jean Grey is currently starring in “Jean Grey,” written by Dennis Hopeless and pencilled by Victor Ibanez.

It was also announced last week that Rosenberg will be writing the revival of the 1960s series “Tales of Suspense,” which returns in December with #100. The series will follow Hawkeye and Winter Soldier, as they both grapple with Black Widow’s death in “Secret Empire.” Editor Alanna Smith explained to ABC News that Hawkeye starts to believe Natasha Romanoff is alive when her former enemies start turning up dead, while Bucky remains unconvinced. Travel Foreman (“Animal Man,” “Ultimates 2”) will be on art duties.

“Tales of Suspense” #100 goes on sale December 6, while “Phoenix Resurrection” starts December 27.
