In 2011, DC rebooted. In 2012, they showed you what happened in the beginning of their new timeline. In 2013, DC puts their bad boys and girls front and center for something a little bit different.
As revealed on Collected Editions (and discussed on CBR), DC will be releasing an omnibus collection of the villainous September 2013 takeover, similar to how they did for all their #1s and all their #0s. The solicit reads:
DC New 52 Villains Omnibus
In September 2013, evil took over, as every title in the DC Universe published special new #1s featuring the villains of the DC Universe, collected here in a massive hardcover edition.A giant-size, hardcover omnibus collection of the special “villains issues” published line-wide in September 2013, spotlighting the greatest villains of the DCU.
Which, essentially, gives away DC’s second anniversary plan: Villain Month. Bleeding Cool has been teasing this one for a while, so I can imagine somewhere out there Rich Johnston is patting himself on the back for leaking the news before Collected Editions was able to.
This isn’t the first time DC has done this, mind you. As CBR rightfully points out, they had a little initiative called “Faces of Evil” back in 2009 before “Final Crisis,” where villains got to take the spotlight before they all beat the heroes in the pages of Grant Morrison’s big DC event. This probably won’t be too much like that, as the New 52 takes great pride in being the exact opposite of what you’d generally expect it to be. This also comes right after DC’s big “Trinity War” event, so there’s a possibility it could tie into that, which also could inherently give a few things away about the aftermath of DC’s inherent take on “Civil War.”
We’ll know more come September, I suppose.
