If the “Powers” TV show on the Playstation Network is something you’re eagerly anticipating, then a moment you’ve been waiting for is here, as at today’s NYCC panel for the show the first trailer was revealed. The minute and 37 second clip showed quite a bit. Lots of Sharlto Copley and Susan Heyward as Christian Walker and Deena Pilgrim, respectively, lots of random appearances of other characters (particularly the great Noah Taylor as Johnny Royale), but most of all, it showed a serious case of pervasive darkness.
And I don’t necessarily mean that in a good way.
“Powers” is and was a procedural detective book, but it always had a lightness to it (in my mind) that at its best helped it not feel so depressing and more engrossing and entertaining. This feels more the former than the latter, with the Christopher Nolan film emulating horns pulsing and the in-your-face usage of two eff bombs by Copley. I’m not really sure how I feel about this, but with some top notch actors involved, I’m interested. It’s too bad I won’t be able to watch until some unknown time because of not owning a Playstation 4, but such is life.
But what did you think, oh faithful readers? In or out on the “Powers” show?
