If you’re anything like me, anything new from artist Ryan Kelly is reason enough to celebrate. Perhaps best known for his work with writer Brian Wood (such as the almost absurdly great Local), Kelly is now self-publishing a new book called Funrama Presents (the lead off is Funrama Presents #1: The Mutant Punks), with the first issue being up for pre-order at his site and available for purchase at this weekend’s C2E2 convention in Chicago.

It’s 28 pages of pure Kelly, with every aspect of the comics (from the writing to the black and white art even to the lettering) by the man himself. Pick it up and support an awesome creator doing something all on his own. If you happen to be one of the first 25 to pre-order, you also get an original, one-of-a-kind sketch to go with it!

FUNRAMA PRESENTS #1: THE MUTANT PUNKS

It all begins here! The mysterious fantasy world known only as Funrama opens its doors for this inaugural special issue to showcase The Mutant Punks, a fearsome seafaring band of mutant anarcho-punks. Concord. Twisterella. Lead Head. The Fog. Bombcat. Join the fun and grab a peak into a day in the life of these hateful lunatics as they plunder a mall, steal a bicycle from a small child, and even visit the President of the United States. But is there something more to these mutant punks? Are they only on this world to start fights and call people mean names? Or will they be crucial players in unlocking the secret of Funrama? And does anybody give a $%&*$#?

With extra pin-up art by Alfredo Lopez Jr., Michelle Silva, Michael Furious, Kevin Mellon,Nicole Vanche, Nikki Cook and Kaylie McDougal.

28 pages, black and white. self-published.
