Netflix have announced “Prodigy,” a new comic book written by Mark Millar, and illustrated by Rafael Albuquerque, starting in December. The series revolves around Edison Crane, the world’s most successful businessman, its greatest scientist, athlete, and composer, and an expert in the occult whose services are regularly called upon by the governments of the world.

“I wanted to write the smartest thing I’ve ever written,” Millar told The Hollywood Reporter, “and at the same time top any action set-pieces I’ve ever managed in the past[,] and I honestly couldn’t be happier with how this has turned out. Edison Crane is by far the best character I’ve created in my career and I’m delighted that my genius friend Rafa Albuquerque is drawing the comic-book side of all this. He’s really one of the best artists in the world.” Albuquerque and Millar previously collaborated on the Image Comics series “Huck.”

“Prodigy” is the second title from Millarworld after it was purchased by Netflix last year, following “The Magic Order,” and is intended to be adapted by the streaming service at some point. At this year’s San Diego Comic Con, Netflix announced TV shows based on the Millar-penned comics “Jupiter Legacy” and “American Jesus,” as well as films based on “Empress,” “Huck,” and the forthcoming “Sharkey the Bounty Hunter” (which hasn’t been formally unveiled yet).

“Prodigy” #1 will be out December 5, 2018.
