Dynamite Entertainment have announced a new “Project Superpowers” relaunch. “Project Superpowers” #0 will herald a new beginning for the roster of revitalized Golden Age characters that featured in the original series. The Black Terror, the Green Lama, Scarab, Masquerade, Sampson and many others are set to return in the Zero Issue, which will be sold at the special introductory price of ten cents. Acclaimed Welsh writer Rob Williams (“Suicide Squad,” “Martian Manhunter”) will pen the relaunch along with artist Sergio Davila (“Injustice”). The low introductory price is a celebration of the tenth anniversary of the original “Project Superpowers” miniseries.

Rob Williams explained the set up for the special issue:

“We’re introducing the new world via the Devil (Death Defying) and Green Lama. We’ll flashback to introduce new readers to the team’s World War 2 origins and how they were brought to the present via imprisonment in Pandora’s box. And then it’s introducing a brand-new threat. One not so rooted in their history. The main players, which include the Black Terror, the Scarab, Masquerade, are going to have to form a new incarnation of the team. And the Spirit Of the American Flag is hovering, watching, judging… A new host is going to be taken.”

Dynamite CEO/Publisher Nick Barrucci explained the timing of the comic and the reasoning behind the special ten cent price:

“We’ve been planning the relaunch of ‘Project Superpowers’ for the last year, and knew we wanted to create the most compelling comic possible! To do that, we were able to bring on board Rob Williams and Sergio Davilla, and it’s a great comic! To ensure the widest audience possible reads the series, we are offering the #0 issue at 10 cents for the 10th Anniversary of ‘Project Superpowers!’… I couldn’t be prouder of the creative team and comic, and can’t wait for fans to check it out! I know that they will love it!”

Originally launched as a 2008 miniseries by Jim Kruger, Alex Ross and Carlos Paul, “Project Superpowers” has spawned several spin-offs from Dynamite, including the 2015 series “Blackcross” (written by Warren Ellis), and last year’s “Project Superpowers: Hero Killers.” The new “Project Superpowers” #0 will hit comic shops this July, and will feature covers by Francesco Mattina (“Dark Nights: Metal”) as well as variant covers by Philip Tan, J.G. Jones, John Royle, Sergio Davila and Ed Benes. More information on “Project Superpowers” #0 to come at Multiversity Comics when it is available.
