Valiant Entertainment has announced a relaunch of their property “Psi-Lords,” written by Fred Van Lente (“Archer & Armstrong”) with art by Renato Guedes (“Bloodshot Salvation”). Described by Van Lente as “very much a science fiction prison break story,” the new book follows a group of humans who find themselves in an unfamiliar environment with two different missions before them, both of which might be at odds with each other.

“Psi-Lords” was originally published by Valiant Comics in the mid-1990s, though that title centered around a team of super-powered individuals in the 41st Century. Those characters were created by Tony Bedard and David Ross, and first appeared in “Rai and and the Future Force” #21 (May 1994) before starring in an eponymous ten-issue run from 1994-1995. Van Lente spoke briefly with The Hollywood Reporter about how his new series would relate to the original, saying, “I’m a reader, first. I was a reader before I became a writer, so I feel like it’s somehow cheating not to acknowledge the history of it. If you quickly jettison what your predecessors did with [the property], it’s really not playing the game correctly. For me, it’s a challenge to find ways to incorporate the past into whatever I want to do in the present.”

“Psi-Lords” is set to debut in June of this year.
