Valiant Teases the Return of the Original Quantum and Woody?

Marvel isn’t going to have all the fun with these NYCC teases. Valiant is getting in the game, and if our guess is right then they’re bringing one of the coolest announcements to NYCC, new books and whatnot aside.

Earlier this year, Valiant relaunched “Quantum and Woody” with James Asmus and Tom Fowler. It’s been one of their best relaunches yet, and is easily the most accessible series for non-Valiant readers (such as yours truly) who didn’t grow up reading Valiant comics (OK, I had Ninjak). However, unlike with other books that they had been relaunching, “Quantum and Woody” reprints of the original critically-acclaimed run were nowhere to be found; Christopher Priest and Mark Bright’s original run is incredibly hard to find, but one of the most celebrated runs of that period in comics among nostalgists everywhere.

While some had assumed that the new Valiant had inherited aspects of the old without the blessing of the creators, Bright confirmed that everything with Valiant was amicable and the company was taking the steps in order to stay good with and treat the former creators of their current books right.

And one would assume that this has paid off, as the above teaser — a variant of their original teaser for the return of Quantum and Woody — is the official confirmation that modern fans of the current book and older fans of the older book will in fact be getting reprints of the original “Quantum and Woody.”

You’d assume.

We hope.

We’ll find out Saturday.

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
