Because we haven’t talked enough about all the good things coming from Image, here’s an additional thing: Doug Tennapel’s first experiment in doing a webcomic, Ratfist, will also be published by Image in December.
The comic itself ran 150 pages, but the book will be 176, with a few extras. The forward will be written by Michael J. Nelson of MST3K/Rifftrax fame, and will also feature pin-ups by Ryan Ottley, Scott Kurtz, Christopher Hastings, Skottie Young, Ethan Nicolle, Katherine Garner, and Der-Shing Helmer.
On his site, Tennapel writes,
1. Tell your friends about it. Word of mouth has been really important. Now that you know how it ends, if you still dig it, tell your friends about it…I want lots of new readers to check it out. That’s my big agenda, I made a comic you can read for free and I want more people to read it for free. It’s the same amount of work on my end if 3 people read it or if 3 million people read it. And no, I don’t make more money if more people read it.
2. When the trade paperback of Ratfist comes out, PRE-ORDER it! This really helps the initial print run, it helps reward Image for putting out books that already exist as webcomics! No guilt or pressure, but if you like it, get the book so you can read it even when the power goes out.
3. Please look into my other books! I have 10 graphic novels out and if you like Ratfist I’d be willing to bet that you’ll dig my other stuff. Try getting Creature Tech, Ghostopolis, Bad Island or Iron West. Most people who like some of my work tend to like all of my work. I put the same kind of work ethic, art principles and love of my audience into all of my books.
So there you have it, folks. Get your various pre-order sites/buttons ready.
If you haven’t read it already, Ratfist is pretty great and will make a fine addition to any comic collection, and is definitely worth the pre-order. Of course, considering it’s all online right now for free, there’s no excuse not to go to the site and read it, now is there?
