DC Comics have announced a new solo series for Raven of the Teen Titans, “Raven: Daughter of Darkness.” The series, which starts in January and will run for twelve issues, is written by Raven’s co-creator Marv Wolfman, and pencilled by Pop Mhan (“He-Man and the Masters of the Universe,” “Injustice: Ground Zero”). Wolfman and Mhan both worked on “DC Universe Online: Legends,” and the artist also contributed to issue #10 of Benjamin Percy’s “Teen Titans.”
This is the third solo limited series for Raven written by Wolfman: the first, “Teen Titans Spotlight: Raven,” came out in 2008 and was drawn by Damion Scott and inked by Robert Campanella. The second, simply called “Raven,” was published from November 2016 to April 2017, and was pencilled by Alisson Borges & Diogenes Neves. “Daughter of Darkness” will continue the story of the latter, where Raven moved in with her aunt Alice’s family in San Francisco.
In “Daughter of Darkness,” Raven will have to deal with a new, more “grounded” supernatural threat, and the return of her mother Angela. She will also cross paths with the morally ambiguous Baron Winters, a sorcerer and leader of the supernatural specialist Night Force. Winters was introduced by Wolfman and Gene Colan in July 1982’s “New Teen Titans” #21, and has starred in three different “Night Force” series written by Wolfman, the last of which came out in 2012.
“Raven: Daughter of Darkness” #1 will be released on January 10. We’ve attached the solicit below:
