Originally appearing in “Occupy Comics” #1, Ales Kot recently posted the black and white version of his and Tyler Crook’s short “Citizen Journalist” on his tumblr. It’s a sharp little five-page story about what to do in a riot, how to stand up for yourself and how to fight for what you believe in in a way that you feel others can’t or won’t. It’s about how the world is bigger than you’re told it is, about how there is multiple sides to every story and how it is important to ask questions and to investigate through anonymity. It reminds me of what the Newsroom wants to be, if it didn’t hide behind excess idealism and hindsight storytelling.

It’s about the citizen journalist.

Plus, any excuse you have to read something with art by Tyler Crook is something you need to take.

And now we will share it with you. Enjoy:

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
