Good news, everyone! As tweeted this morning, Multiversity favorite Jonathan Hickman revealed that the final issue of Red Mass For Mars is heading to printers. For those that don’t know, Hickman had a great set of books that he wrote on Image before his work at Marvel began. This included the Nightly News, Pax Romana, and Transhuman (all of which we reviewed in one nice post). Of course, there was always the unfinished piece – Red Mass For Mars. A four issue mini, only three issues ever came out, and when Hickman went to work for Marvel it looked like the final issue would never come out (and thus I was never able to review it).
That’s not the case anymore, however, as we will now get the final issue! Of course, Hickman once promised that when the final issue came out, so would the collected trade of the story, so we are all in luck for those that never had a chance to read it at all. While we don’t have a release date yet, this is definitely some very exciting news for fans of Hickman’s solo work.
For an old (2007) interview about the book, I point you in the direction of ComicBookResources.com for all the primer information you need to get excited for the trade (assuming that you don’t have the issues). You can be assured that as soon as we get our hands on a copy of it all, we’ll tell you all about how good (or hey, who knows – it could be terrible!) it is. Keep your eyes open and ready for any new information as we get it.
Update – July 3rd, 2010: Hickman answered a question via his Formspring that the trade should be available October-ish. Everyone rejoice!
