Dynamite Entertainment have announced their latest series “Red Sonja: Age Of Chaos,” which is set to cross over the Hyborian warrior Red Sonja with the acquired characters from the Chaos! Universe. The event will be written by Erik Burnham with art from Jonathan Lau, and is framed around the cosmic quarrel between Mistress Hel and Lady Demon, a conflict that leaves Red Sonja and her supporting cast in a shaky alliance with sworn rival Kulan Gath.

This will be Burnham’s second foray into the realm of Red Sonja, following the story arc ‘Worlds Away,’ which spirited Red Sonja to a modern day New York in Amy Chu and Carlos Gomez’s run. Burnham said, “I am incredibly excited to get a return trip to the Hyborean Age to spend a little more time with Red Sonja. She’s an incredibly fun character to write, and the contrast of her nature up against the magic and mayhem of the Chaos! characters is going to make for a good time at the ol’ keyboard.” He teased the possibility of a callback to ‘Worlds Away,’ but cautioned readers that “anything we mention would just be for flavor, and not really a main ingredient.”

Lau added, “My mission has always been to bring big action back into comics, which is sorely lacking in the ‘dialogue-heavy’ style of comics nowadays. Writers like Erik have given me artistic freedom when it comes to fight scenes. He says something like ‘Hey Jon, I leave to you these three to five pages as long as this certain guy wins but loses an arm at the last panel.’”

“Red Sonja: Age Of Chaos” #1 releases January 2020 with covers by Lucio Parrillo, Alan Quah, Ale Garza, Cian Tormey and Shannon Kingston.
