Dynamite have announced a new deal to release graphic novels of horror and science-fiction novelist F. Paul Wilson’s Repairman Jack character. Repairman Jack first appeared in the 1984 novel The Tomb, before returning in the late 1990s. Since 1998, he has been in almost 30 short stories and novels written by Wilson.
Jack is an “urban anti-hero,” fixing problems both mundane and supernatural in a future society. Dynamite CEO and publisher Nick Barrucci commented that the “level of action with his unique sprinkling of supernatural and sci-fi elements would translate perfectly to a visual medium.”
As Jack makes the jump into comics, Wilson will keep a tight grip on his character, writing the new graphic novels himself. Initially, however, he was just going to plot the stories, and someone else would write a full script, but, in his own words, the author was too “anal” to let go of control, “so I’m doing the whole deal, story and script. Jack’s fans can expect to see a lot of familiar faces, while new readers will come away with a damn good idea of who this urban mercenary is, what he does, and how he gets it done.”
According to Previews World, the first of these Repairman Jack original graphic novels will be released next year.
