Marvel have announced a follow-up to 2014’s “Spider-Verse” to be released later this year called “Spider-Geddon.” The story will, like its predecessor, see a team of web-headed heroes from parallel dimensions team up to defeat Morlun.

Now, Morlun and his family of Inheritors were trapped in the “perfect prison” last time round, right? Well, editor Nick Lowe, acknowledged that fact in the publisher’s statement: “in any superhero story, there’s always a way out,” and “you won’t believe how these Spider-Eaters get out.” Lowe also said that the book is going to strap “dynamite” to the stage that “Spider-Verse” established and “[blow] it to smithereens.”

The creative team of writer Christos Gage (“Spider-Verse Team Up”) and artist Jorge Molina (“X-Men Blue”) will be tasked with juggling the multitude of Spider-Man incarnations: Gage described them as being ready to “deliver on all counts” on the series. Dan Slott will also be involved in the project, despite having only just left the “The Amazing Spider-Man” with the highly-rated #801 earlier this month.

The series is set to be filled with surprises too with one new Spider-Man already confirmed: the Peter Parker from the upcoming PlayStation 4 game, Marvel’s Spider-Man. Previously, the character had been left as a silhouette on the teaser from earlier this month.

Gage also noted how excited he was to be “writing REDACTED, the REDACTED;” given its spoilerific nature, the storyline will still have some huge reveals when it is released.

With more and more information due in “the next few weeks”, Spider-Man fans won’t have long before more details are revealed and then, next month, the build-up to the event increases with the release of “Edge of Spider-Geddon #1” on August 15. “Spider-Geddon #0” will be the final appetiser on September 26, before the event starts in October.
