This week, it was announced that Rhys Ifans would be in Marc Webb’s Spider-Man film reboot as the villain of the first film. Now, it has come out exactly which villain he is: Dr. Curt Connors, also known as The Lizard.
This pick works for a lot of the same reasons I thought he’d be The Vulture – a lesser villain that could allow for more Peter Parker time, someone who works as a one-and-done very well, and quite frankly, he works better because of the relationship between Peter and Curt. I’ve never heard Ifans do an American accent, but I’d wager he can.
This is a good place for a theory too. Our writer Mocle believes that they’re going the Christopher Nolan route on this, leading off the new franchise with a villain that hasn’t been seen yet and then going with a classic villain in the sequel. Doc Ock or Green Goblin anyone?
