After issue six, the current team of Ivan Brandon and Tom Derenick will be leaving Men Of War. While the back-up feature has consistently been shifting, it looks like Brandon and Derenick are done for whatever unknown reason, despite being John Hodgman’s favorite DCnU team (which, really, is about all the praise I think one would need to want to continue working on a book).
The new team has since been announced in DC’s March solicits: James Robinson and Scott Kolins on the main story, and JT Krul and Phil Winslade on the back-up. Viktor Kalvachev will remain the book’s cover artist.
For Robinson and Kolins’ portion, it seems the book might shift away from the revamped SGT Rock a tad to tell a different story (unless I’m completely reading the solicit wrong, which is highly probable). As the solicit reads, “It’s not the War on Drugs, but these SAS soldiers find themselves battling for control of a poppy field. Can they knock out this Taliban cell’s money source in order to win the bigger battle?” As for Krul and Winslade’s, the solicit reads, “It might have been battle skill or luck that helped Blake survive the crash of his patrol helicopter in Iraq — but which will get him through returning to civilian life?”
There’s no word on if this will be the official ongoing team or not, as the back-up feature has consistently been switched up between issue and there has been no news (that we’ve seen) about Robinson taking over the title with Kolins. Only time will tell, I suppose.
