A new volume of ROM was announced today during the Hasbro and IDW panel at San Diego Comic-Con. The book is titled “ROM: Dire Wraiths,” and the first issue going to be out in October. The book will be centered around the invasion of the classic foes of the Spaceknight, the Dire Wraiths, during the 1969 Moon landing.
While the length of the book was not revealed, it was announced the book’s creative team will see the return of IDW’s own president Chris Ryall on writing duties, after co-writing the publisher’s initial series with Christos N. Gage. The book will be illustrated by Guy Dorian, who has experience from previous issues; as well as Luca Pizzari (known for “Weapon X” vol. 5), and the legendary Sal Buscema, the artist on the original Marvel run written by Bill Mantlo.
This book is the latest based on Hasbro’s classic toyline following IDW’s acquiring of the license back in 2016. So far, IDW has published a 14-issue solo run, the mini-series “ROM vs. Transformers” and “ROM & the Micronauts,” and four one-shots, including that year’s FCBD Special. (ROM was also a recurring character in IDW’s Transformers title until it rebooted those comics this year.) As of today, no art has been released, though it will likely be unveiled soon when IDW releases their solicitations for October.
