In the latest of various DCnU shake-ups, it looks like Voodoo writer Ron Marz is off the title as of issue #4 (issue #3 comes out at the end of this month). The book had received fairly middle ground reviews (as we observed before), essentially rounding out to a book that was fairly competent if not a door buster — not unreadable, but not something to read over any other title you might like. Unfortunately, it also, like Red Hood and Catwoman, was one of the more controversial titles of the DC relaunch due to its depiction of women in comic books, given that it opened with the central character on all fours at a strip club.

To that end, it appears DC has other plans for the title and since they are apparently not planning to fully axe the book, as Ron Marz wraps up his story in two issues, Joshua Williamson (whom you might know as the writer of the Supergirl/Damian issue of Superman/Batman as well as his new ongoing from Image, Xenoholics) is coming in to take over the book further down the line at issue #6, leaving #5 up in the air in terms of who is writing. Sami Basri will remain on board as series artist, however, with Jessica Kholinne on colors.

This isn’t the first book to receive an odd and seemingly abrupt line-up change in DC’s New 52. JT Krul was quickly replaced on Green Arrow, John Rozum exited Static Shock and George Perez is leaving Superman. Given that we’ve now seen the numbers for month two of the DCnU, it’ll be interesting to see what other books get shake-ups in their creative teams.

Here’s hoping that Williamson does it better.

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
