Rumor: DC Has Plans for 7 Films to be Revealed at SDCC

Today, former Deadline Hollywood reporter Nikki Finke has started her own blog after exiting some time ago, and to kick things off in style she’s spoiling DC/Warner Bros’ (and perhaps Rich Johnston’s) fun and giving some Comic Con news early.

According to a report by Finke, DC/WB has plans for the following seven films to come out over the next four years:

May 2016 – Batman v Superman
July 2016 – Shazam
Xmas 2016 – Sandman
May 2017 – Justice League
July 2017 – Wonder Woman
Xmas 2017 – Flash and Green Lantern team-up
May 2018 – Man Of Steel 2

Finke notes that these are “in flux,” so there are perhaps things here that are less than accurate. Man of Steel 2, for example, seems a bit off considering what is now Batman v Superman was, for all intents and purposes, the Man of Steel sequel. That’s not to say that another solo Superman film is in the works, obviously, but that one does seem a bit off.

Not only that, but it does strike one as odd that a Shazam film would come before other aspects of the collected Justice League universe, particularly the proposed July 2017 Wonder Woman film. Not out of the question considering the poor treatment Wonder Woman has received from the company, but certainly odd.

Finke also makes note that Cyborg and the Flash will be appearing in Batman v Superman as a way to seed the characters, and that Green Lantern may appear as well. Aquaman, on the other hand, will have to wait to Justice League. Finke also notes that there are heavy contracting negotiations going on for actors to play their particular roles.

So: is this true? Are there seven films in the works? Will we finally get a Wonder Woman film in July 2017? And where is that Justice League Dark film that Del Toro was supposedly working on in all of this? I suppose time will tell.

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
