Rumor Mill #3: The Future of X-Force, Secret Avengers and Avengers Academy?

So last week we threw some rumors out, and today we’d like to keep fueling the fire just a wee bit.

Remender announced (and we reported) that his “X-Force” and “Secret Avengers” runs were coming to an end soon, with “X-Force” almost certain for a relaunch in December. We also know that “Avengers Academy” is ending in November but that it is one of the titles slated for a relaunch, according to Marvel EiC Axel Alonso.

Last week we were given three teasers: “Wanted” by Hopeless and Larocca, “Survive” by Hopeless and Walker and “Killers” by Humphries and Garney. (There was also “Lightning” by Way and Dillon, but every site — including Newsarama, who originally reported it — is under the assumption it’s a new Thunderbolts book, and so are we.)

Using this information, let’s do some thinking here. Who knows, this may even end up as true:

We’ve previously reported a rumor that Dennis Hopeless will be the new writer of “X-Force,” but with two teasers to pick from we weren’t sure which was which. Well, what about this thought: the Hopeless/Larocca teaser “Wanted” seems fairly in line with the secrecy of X-Force, does it not? Maybe X-Force is found out and various members have to go on the run? It seems fairly likely, certainly more so than the “Survive” teaser. So that takes care of one of the books.

When looking at “Survive” and “Killers,” the latter doesn’t seem likely to relate to a book about a bunch of teen heroes fresh out of college — or even an incoming class of heroes into hero university. It’s also easy to make jokes about surviving school, although the blood in the teaser is a bit suspicious. It’s then probably safe to say under all these assumptions that “Survive” is the potential “Avengers Academy” relaunch (maybe with some kind of Hunger Games twist? DC’s “Teen Titans” already tried to ride that rain earlier in the year) and that “Killers,” as strange as it may be, relates to “Secret Avengers.” Why they’ve become killers if they’re Avengers is beyond me, but if they’re secretive enough about it it shouldn’t be a problem, right?

So we have:

  • “X-Force” by Hopeless and Larocca
  • “Avengers Academy” by Hopeless and Walker
  • “Secret Avengers” by Humphries and Garney

Correct? Possibly. Only time will tell.

Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
