Rumor Mill: Jeff Lemire on Brightest Day?

While in line at the Team Green Lantern table at, MC writer Brandon Burpee overheard a conversation between Geoff Johns and a DC staffer of unknown identity. It seems that the DC staffer had just returned from purchasing Jeff Lemire’s Essex County at the Top Shelf table and with the idea of Lemire being interested in working on Brightest Day. Johns’ response was that he knew and liked Lemire’s work and that he’d be interested in Lemire contributing.

Given that Brandon was the only one of us that heard that (I was probably looking at cosplayers or contemplating where Pia Guerra’s table was) and that we didn’t have anything else to corroborate the story, we didn’t want to run it…yet.

Today we posted our interview with Jeff Lemire, to whom we posed a question about what we overheard at ECCC.

You also mentioned writing for DC proper on Twitter. While at Emerald City ComiCon, we overheard a couple prominent DC creators discussing your name alongside the words “Brightest Day” as one of them leafed through a copy of Essex County. Are you going to contribute to that high profile project, or is your DC work different in nature?

Lemire: Umm…….no comment…..wouldn’t that be interesting though?

While that isn’t quite a “yes, I’m working on Brightest Day”, it does sound like Brandon was on the right track. Chalk this one up as a strong rumor, Multiversity readers. What Lemire’s role in this sprawling saga could be is uncertain, but I’d say an announcement about him contributing is on the roadmap from DC.
