Rumors are fun. Sometimes other websites share them and we pick up on them and share them with you, and other times we share something we’ve heard for you to do with as you please.
This is one of those times.
A source who wishes to remain anonymous has reached out to us to note two things that supposedly will be making their way into the upcoming Avengers film sequel. While I will of course not divulge the confidence of identity, I will note that this source has given us accurate information in the past, including this little number. Rumors are rumors, sure, but this felt like something worth sharing with our readers — and with permission, we are doing so.
Potential spoilers for Avengers 2: Age of Ultron to follow.
First and foremost, it appears that Ultron will in fact be an agent of Thanos. Ultron will still be in the form of an AI, but he will be sent to Earth to be “birthed” through Stark technology, sort of as a follow-up attack to the Chitauri invasion but more personally directed at the Avengers. Ultron will in turn come from the JARVIS technology installed in the Iron Man suits by Tony Stark, and will transform from there to menace the Avengers for the film. (I get the impression that this is Thanos’ way of trying to break up the band for a follow-up attack.)
In addition to that, the Avengers will see two new members join the team by the end of the film. The first will be Rhodey aka Iron Patriot (played by the fantastic Don Cheadle), who will become a full-time member of the team by the film’s end. The other, however, will be a character who has not been cast or announced for the film yet: fan favorite Carol Danvers, who will supposedly take the name Ms. Marvel by the end of the film.
And that’s what we were given. Take it with all the grains of salt that you have.

In terms of the first rumor, I suppose this is relatively plausible. Most fan theories had been that Ultron was born out of a rogue aspect of Stark’s JARVIS AI, based partially on general logic and based partially on the JARVIS app Marvel released for Iron Man 3. If Ultron was created by Thanos instead of Hank Pym, it could assumedly tie things together.
As for the other, I generally question the idea that Carol Danvers will be in the film, but it is not the first time this rumor has surfaced (originally first cropping up with the plot synopsis of Guardians). Rhodey joining the Avengers, sure, of course, but the addition of Carol to the cast? It would make sense in the general sense that Carol is a tremendous fan favorite character right now and would help round-out the team’s male-dominated ratio, but the lack of any additional information about Carol’s role or even casting information for the film anywhere else online makes me a bit suspect of that.
Still. I’m sure many fans would love to see someone like Katee Sackhoff bring the character to life. I know I would.
So what do you think? Do you buy these rumors? Do you want Ultron to be a creation of Thanos and Carol to appear in the movie? Let us know in the comments below.
